It was over a year ago on June 24th, 1994, that a fire broke out at approximately 3:46 AM at 323 Elmwood Drive. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the result of the blaze sent shockwaves across the Elmwood community. Jim and Tina Grover, along with their two daughters, Linda and Poppy, have been missing since the fire on that warm June night. Interestingly enough, their nightwear was found charred in the remnants of what were their beds, and neighbors report that they did not witness the family leave the property as the fire engulfed the house. It is almost as if the family disappeared and vanished into thin air. The family and community have spent hundreds of hours searching for them and finding clues to the Grovers' whereabouts. However, the community police have called off the search and labeled this a cold case. The community remains hopeful and continues to hold vigils in memory of the Grover family. Any new information or leads are always welcomed by the local authorities, who still keep an open file on the case. The mystery of the Elmwood fire and the Grover family's disappearance remains one of the most talked-about events in the town's history. It is our job to investigate and find clues to solve this case.
You arrive at 323 Elmwood Drive to start your investigation. You notice a weird aura around the property that sends shivers and chills down your spine. However, you put on a brave face and walk up the path towards the front door. You are faced with a few different options. Which one do you pick?
The front door is locked and is being blocked by debris. Try another option.
The neighbors seem wary of talking about the fire, but after some convincing, one of them tells you that they saw a shadowy figure leaving the house that night. However, the person couldn’t identify who it was due to the darkness. Another neighbor mentions that they hear voices coming from the cellar entrance located in the backyard, and that it is the only way into the house. Another one mentions that the family moved in on April 8th 1993 and that it was a VERY important date for the family and that they celebrated that date on the one year anniversary.
While searching the backyard, you stumble across a half-burned notebook that you believe is the young daughter Poppy's diary. Only one page is legible and it contains a drawing of the family with a shadowy figure in the background. Above the figure, the words "GET OUT" are scribbled multiple times. You put the notebook in your backpack and head to the cellar's entrance. The door is locked, but there is a keypad.
The keypad asks you for a code. What will you do?
Incorrect code! The door doesn't open. You feel a strange feeling and as you turn around you see a shadowy figure rushing towards you. Game over!
Correct code! The door opens, and you step into the dark cellar. You notice a writing on the wall that looks like it was written by a child. It reads "It doesn't like the sun but I do" You take a picture and continue to search around the cellar. You stumble upon a workbench with a pitchfork, a flashlight, and a baseball bat resting on top of it.
What will you do next?
Great choice! You grabbed the flashlight. You make the connection from the writing on the wall that must mean whatever is in this house does not like bright lights.
Bad choice! The pitchfork is no match for what lurks inside the house. Game over!
Bad choice! The baseball bat doesn’t help you in this situation. Game over!
Now that you have the flashlight, you found the stairs that lead up to the main floor of the house. To move forward, you need to solve this puzzle:
Who is the missing daughter of the Grover family that wrote in the journal?
Correct! You continue your investigation.
You notice at the base of the stairs there are ten empty gasoline cans, could this be how the fire started? You decide to head upstairs.
You head upstairs and you notice the walls are full of writings. It looks like the whole family went mad and began to scribble words on the walls. One of the words gets your attention and it shakes you to the core. It reads "It doesn't like the light, it doesn't like the light, so we turn this place into an inferno and send it back to hell. Can you think of anything brighter?" You think to yourself that it is starting to make sense; the family burned their house down to drive out whatever it was here. Just when you took out your camera, you hear something behind you...
When you turn around, you are greeted by the shadowy figure. You start to snap pictures with your flash on to stun the figure... but it only made it bigger and stronger. Weeks pass and no one has heard from you. The investigation team enters the property and finds your clothes and camera sitting on the floor. They pick up the camera and remove the photograph that was being dispensed from the camera.
This photograph sent shivers down the team's spine as they see the last thing you ever saw. They then hear a noise and point all their flashlights towards it, not knowing that is exactly what it wants to grow stronger... Thanks for Playing!
